Minalungao Caves (General Tinio, Nueva Ecija)

The entrance to the cave

Minalungao National Park in the town of General Tinio boasts some of the best natural wonders in the whole province of Nueva Ecija. Just around 4 hours away from Manila and just an hour away from Gapan City, the park is a favorite destination for local tourists. Within the park is the pristine emerald-green waters of the PeƱaranda River, framed by tall sheer white limestone cliffs on both side creating a picturesque river bend, the (more or less) 1,000 steps leading to the cross at the summit of Minalungao Hill and of course the series of caves behind the sheer rock face of the cliffs.

Anawangin Hill Viewdeck (Zambales, 80+ MASL)

At the Viewdeck on the hilltop of Anawangin Hill (March 2013)

Located in barangay Pundaquit in the town of San Antonio, Zambales, Anawangin cove is one of the prime quick-getaways from busy Metro Manila. An isolated cove nestled within the Pundaquit Range, the beach is off the grid - no electricity, no cell phone signal and is miles away from the nearest road. However, far from being a deterrent, the lack of such connection to the outside world is what actually adds flavor and excitement to the place. Hordes of beach bums and weekend warriors flock to its beaches to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

To the south-west of the beach is a hilly area which actually forms part of the slopes of Mt. Pundaquit. A visit to the beach is incomplete without a quick hike to the hilltop to get a glimpse of the great views of the sandy beaches of the cove.
